Starobelsk district is situated in the East Ukraine, Lugansk region, 100 kilometers north of the regional center on the bank of the Aidar river and makes connection with the railway Moscow-Donetsk. The area of the district is 1530 square kilometers. The population of the district is 59900 citizens. This is a district producing industrial and agricultural goods for nearly all parts of Ukraine.
The center of the district is Starobelsk, which is situated on the left bank of the river Aidar. The population of the town 20,6 thousand people.
The first settlements were there in the 6-4 centuries B.D.. It has played great role in the history of the whole district. At the beginning it was a small village with not so many people in it and now it has a huge industrial potential.There are a lot of plants and factories of food producing.
It is beautiful town, which can tell you about the history and culture of the past of Ukraine. There are a lot of old buildings and green lands, which combine the beauty of our town.
The Starobelsk has a high level of education, medicine and culture. There are some educational establishments, which teach young people different professions. Among them the Agricultural College, the most oldest educational establishment in Ukraine. There are three medical schools in Lugansk region and one of it is situated in Starobelsk. It was opened on the 10th of October 1932. There is the oldest library of Lugansk in our region. It is nearly 130 years old. It is also the cultural and informative center of the district. The leading place in the religious life of the population of the district is taken by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. There is a convent in Starobelsk, which is situated here from the 25th of August 1862. There was a big library, but it was destroyed a lot of times with the building of the monastery. Now they are repaired.
